Jamie Carragher has poked fun at Micah Richards, joking that he was not a good role model for young Man City star Micah Hamilton.
The 20-year-old City academy star made his full senior debut for the club on Wednesday night and enjoyed a dream first outing against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
Hamilton would produce a moment of magic in the 19th minute of the game to put City 1-0 up, breaking into the penalty area to hammer the ball past the Belgrade goalkeeper from a tight angle.
City went on to seal victory 3-2 and will now advance to the knockout stages of the tournament after finishing top of Group G.
After the match, Carragher lauded the young star for his performance, saying to CBS sports: ‘There was a lot to admire. He reminds us of this man on our left [Richards]. His performance was fantastic, the interview was fantastic.’

But the former Liverpool defender admitted that he was not impressed by a passage of play that saw Hamilton go down inside the opposition penalty area.
‘But there was one thing I didn’t like tonight and he’s got to get it out of his game,’ he said, speaking on the moment.
‘That is a horrific, horrendous, dive – it’s cheating.’
Carragher’s strong comments immediately evoked a reaction from Richards, who replied saying ‘What?!’
‘Here it is it’s not right,’ Carragher adds before Richards said: ‘He’s got his shirt there!’
The ex-Liverpool defender added: ‘No it’s not right, he flops to the floor it’s very theatric and we don’t want to see it.’
Carragher, on punditry after the game, claimed Hamilton had dived and had found a clip from the archives of Richards performing a pretty exceptional dive himself
Carragher jokingly claimed ‘Where do you think he learnt it from Micah Richards?’
‘Are you being serious?’ Richards said perplexed, to which Carragher replied: ‘Ofcourse I’m being serious; that message he’ll thank me for in a few years.’
Carragher, who was making his case then went on to show the video of Richards performing a very thatrical swan dive during his playing days at Aston Villa.
‘He obviously looks up to you, so where do you think he got it from? Where do you think he learnt it from Micah Richards?’ Carragher said before playing the hilarious clip of Richards rising into mid-air, before going horizontal and falling onto his head.
The humerous clip had the studio in stitches, with Thierry Henry, also on punditry perplexed at the physics of Richards’ dive.
But it was a fantastic debut for Hamilton, who after the match, reflected on his career so far before claiming that there was more to come from him after a ‘surreal’ debut in the Champions League.
‘I don’t even know how to put it into words to be honest – it’s all surreal. The game obviously; the goal, everyone has seen that, I didn’t even know what to do,’ the 20-year-old said.
Despite that, Hamilton enjoyed a fantastic debut for the Cityzens, scoring on his debut with a very well taken strike
