Wright urges Mikel Arteta to DITCH three stars and pay Ozil to leave

Ian Wright urges Mikel Arteta to DITCH Willian, Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac and put his faith in youth as he calls for Arsenal to PAY £350,000-a-week outcast Mesut Ozil to leave

  • Arsenal legend Ian Wright has encouraged Mikel Arteta to use young players
  • He name-checked Joe Willock, Emile Smith Rowe and William Saliba to come in
  • Wright labelled upcoming games against Brighton and West Brom as ‘must-win’
  • The Gunners have endured a horrid start to the season, sitting 15th in the league

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has called on Mikel Arteta to make drastic changes to his squad to arrest their steep decline this season.

The Gunners lie 15th, just four points off the relegation zone, in their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta’s side are massively struggling for creativity, while £350,000-a-week attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has been ostracised and is not part of the Premier League or Europa League squads.

Ian Wright stated Mesut Ozil (left) and Willian (right) are not contributing enough for Arsenal

The former striker also criticised defenders Shkodran Mustafi (left) and Sead Kolasinac (right)

And Wright urged the board to pay off the last six months of Ozil’s contract to get him to leave.

He told Optus Sport’s The Kelly and Wrighty Show: ‘With the manager and the players he’s picking now, people like Emile Smith Rowe and Joe Willock and those guys, I’d like to see them have a chance.

‘You’re looking at the Willians, it’s not happening and he’s not playing well. Why are you playing people like Kolasinac and Mustafi? I’d rather see Saliba, who is playing in the Under-23s, I’d rather see Smith Rowe and something different.

‘To the people upstairs: give Mesut Ozil the money if you’re not going to play him and move him on. Same with Kolasinac and those players in and around the club and aren’t going to contribute – that’s what he needs, players who are contributing.

Arsenal legend Wright urged Gunners boss Mikel Arteta to instead start picking young players

He name-checked Joe Willock, 21, and Emile Smith Rowe, 20, as two players who could come in

‘Arsenal have to realise they’re in a situation that can get worse and if they do lose those games against Brighton and West Brom… those games are must-win games.’

Young players Joe Willock (21), Emile Smith Rowe (20) and William Saliba (19) have made just 17 appearances between them in all competitions this season – with the latter being excluded from the domestic and European squads altogether.

Under-performing trio Shkodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac and Willian have made 33 overall.

Arsenal host Chelsea on Boxing Day before facing Brighton and West Bromwich Albion – two of the only five sides below them in the Premier League.

Wright also said upcoming fixtures against Brighton and West Bromwich Albion are ‘must-win’
