Emma Raducanu shot to stardom by winning the US Open title this season, becoming the first qualifier in tennis history to accomplish such a feat. Even more magnificently, the 19-year-old did so without even dropping a set.

Such was the surprise of Raducanu’s run to the final, her parents were not able to get out to watch her match against Leylah Fernandez in person.

They had to wait until their daughter returned home, but they are not getting carried away.

“My parents are never ones to make a big deal out of anything I do that are good but we’ll see,” Raducanu said on a video call to BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.

“They have been normal, nothing too big and nothing too low, that’s just how they’ve brought me up.”
