French Open final preview and prediction: Iga Swiatek vs Sofia Kenin

This is an exciting time for women’s tennis.

Regardless of who wins Saturday’s French Open final between Iga Swiatek and Sofia Kenin, each of the past four Grand Slam champions will have been under the age of 22.

As the Williams’ sisters draw ever nearer to the ends of their respective careers, and with the likes of Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki already hanging up their racquets, women’s tennis is welcoming a new generation of superstars to the fore.

It’s hard to believe Kenin and Swiatek won’t be part of the conversation for years to come.

Kenin, the 21-year-old from the USA, has already notched a first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year and can become the first woman since Angelique Kerber in 2016 to win multiple majors in the same calendar year.

A fiery competitor, who idolised Sharapova growing up, Kenin hadn’t passed the fourth round of a major prior to this season but is now on the verge of becoming a multiple Slam winner.
