Federer leads the head-to-head against Tsonga 11-6 but has lost their last two meetings.

But the nine-time Halle champion is at his best on the grass and will be looking to make a statement as he builds towards Wimbledon, which begins on July 1.

Tsonga, who is battling back from an injury-hit past few years, won the 17th title of his career at the Open Sud de France in February.

The winner of this match will play Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarter-finals.
