Marvin Vettori was booed by the packed-out O2 Arena crowd as he got his hand raised against Roman Dolidze on the UFC 286 main card. The Italian middleweight took the fight via unanimous decision with scorecards of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.
Vettori and Dolidze stood and traded in a technical striking display which saw the former land with more volume while the latter banged home the more significant blows. Although most of Vettori’s strikes came from leg kicks while Dolidze closed the fight as a -650 favourite on Las Vegas betting lines.
Taking to Twitter in their masses, disgruntled fans voiced their displeasure. “How tf did Vettori win that!?!,” wrote @JSanchezFN. “No clue. I had Dolidze that whole fight,” replied @ninernate49.
Meanwhile, MMAFighting.com journalist Shaheen Al-Shatti, added: “Wow, I had that one 29-28 Dolidze. Thought he pulled it off. Very close fight, 29-28 Vettori is understandable. But 30-27 Vettori? Come on now. That’s certainly a scorecard. #UFC286.”

But not everyone was in agreement. One fan (@StoicPenguinMMA) tweeted: “Vetorri 29-28 Vettori threw way more volume, controlled the pace of the final two rounds, severely damaged Dolidze’s leg and gave him a black eye Dolidze threw a lot of singular power shots but was landing on the guard often, as evidenced by Marvin looking fresh after the fight.”
Another (@shwhite86) wrote: “I don’t think people are realizing that Vettori blocked nearly all of the big shots from Roman in the 3rd. 30-27 is out of hand but Marvin won 2nd & 3rd.”

He drops to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in the UFC but is unlikely to be ejected from the top ten at 185lb after the loss.
