Matheus Nunes has refused to train with Wolves and informed the club he wishes to join Manchester City.

Wolves rejected an offer of £47million last week and want at least £60m for the 25-year-old.

Nunes did not train on Sunday and Monday as he looks to force through the move.

However, Wolves are adamant they will not let him go unless their valuation is met and are willing to wait until after the transfer window before integrating him back into the squad.

The Brazilian-born Portugal international will also face disciplinary action with an expected fine.

City boss Pep Guardiola (pictured) is a long-term admirer of Nunes and wants to bring him to the club

Nunes joined Wolves in a club-record £42m deal from Sporting Lisbon last summer and has four years remaining on his contract, plus the option of a further 12 months. Liverpool and Chelsea expressed interest earlier in the year.

City, who have also looked at Eberechi Eze at Crystal Palace, want to add another midfielder this week after losing Kevin De Bruyne for up to five months through a hamstring injury.

Wolves, who are due to play Blackpool in the Carabao Cup second round at Molineux on Tuesday night, have an interest in City midfielders James McAtee and Tommy Doyle, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

Nunes reportedly refused to attend training sessions at Wolves on Sunday and Monday

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil (pictured) was without the star for his side’s weekend win over Everton

However, it is understood a deal for either was planned to be treated separately to the bid for Nunes. City were proposing an improved offer of around £52m with add-ons but that is still short of Wolves’ valuation.

Pep Guardiola, who is recuperating in Barcelona after back surgery and missed Sunday’s 2-1 win at Sheffield United, has already signed Mateo Kovavic and Jeremy Doku this summer as well as defender Josko Gvardiol but is hoping for further reinforcements.

City wanted to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham Mail Sport revealed they abandoned that after the Football Association began an investigation into alleged betting breaches by the Brazil midfielder.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are continuing to explore a loan deal for City full back Joao Cancelo.
