Remco Evenepoel was left a bloodied mess after colliding with a woman following a stage at one of the world\u2019s most prestigious cycling races.<\/p>\n
Evenepoel had just crossed the finishing line after winning stage three at the La Vuelta a Espana, but was still travelling at high speed downhill as he headed towards a gaggle of officials and media personnel.<\/p>\n
While many people scattered, Evenepoel \u2013 the defending champion \u2013 made heavy contact with one onlooker, with the pair clashing heads. The Belgian star was left in a heap on the floor with blood pouring from his head.<\/p>\n
After being helped to his feet, Evenepoel slammed the officials and called for safety to be improved for both riders and spectators. He fumed: \u201c[It is] an issue with safety for the third day in a row, now – it's a bit breaking my balls now."<\/p>\n

On winning the stage, which saw him retain the leader\u2019s red jersey, the Soudal\u2013Quick Step rider added: \u201cIt was the perfect tactics from us to just be patient, to wait.<\/p>\n
\u201cI felt good on the final climb and then went for a long final sprint. I'm super happy with this victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us, it would have been good if the breakaway had stayed away, but when we caught them it was important to be focused.<\/p>\n
\u201cI knew I had a big punch left in my legs, so we decided to go for it. It shows that my preparation was good and that I'm ready for the next three weeks."<\/p>\n

Britain's Geraint Thomas, of the Ineos Grenadiers team, is 21st, one minute and 11 seconds back from the leader.<\/p>\n
Tuesday's stage four sees the riders take on a hilly 185km route from Andorra La Vella to Tarragona.<\/p>\n
