Eagle-eyed social media users spotted Marcus Rashford bizarrely wearing no boots in Sky Sports’ pre-match graphics ahead of Manchester United’s defeat by Arsenal.

Viewers tuning in to watch the heavyweight showdown at the Emirates noticed Rashford posing for the line-ups before kick-off and sporting only socks on his feet.

Indeed, while Sky’s animated starting XIs appeared on the screen, Rashford was shown with his green and white striped kit but, curiously, was missing his footwear.

The reason behind the wardrobe malfunction is not clear, with theories ranging from the forward making a genuine mistake to him searching for a new boot sponsor.

Either way, supporters were reduced to hysterics on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Manchester United forward Rashford was spotted in the line-up graphics without any boots

‘Forgot to wear shoes and the cameraman didn’t even know,’ one user laughed.

Another added: ‘Broski forgot his boots as home.’

‘Bro thought it wouldn’t be a full picture,’ a third joked.

A fourth looked to guess the reason behind the error, saying: ‘Looking for sponsors.’

Rashford did find his shooting boots, however, and even opened the scoring in the clash of the two titans, having cut inside and bent beyond Aaron Ramsdale.

The goal, his first of the season, fired United in front firmly against the run of play.

Referencing the graphic mistake, another user said: ‘He doesn’t need boots to score.’

One individual clearly spoke too early, though, having posted, ‘His boots ghosted just like’s he’s ghosting right now’ before Rashford broke the deadlock.

Nevertheless, Arsenal responded in style and scored an equaliser through Martin Odegaard, who swept home with a powerful strike after a slick move.

Alejandro Garnacho looked to have stolen all three points for United at the death, only for his late effort to be chalked off by VAR for a narrow offside.

The hosts then capitalised on the late drama, Declan Rice smashing home a deflected second goal before Gabriel Jesus scored a last-gasp third.
