Andy Robertson says he is not concerned about the future of Mo Salah and insists the Egyptian forward is committed to Liverpool and completely unfazed by ongoing Saudi Arabian interest.

Al Ittihad made a £150million offer for the 31-year-old on Thursday and have threatened to come back in with another bid in the closing days of the Saudi Pro League transfer window, but Liverpool insist Salah is not for sale.

And now Scottish full back Robertson has backed up that steadfast stance, admitting that Salah is one of the best players in the world and the ‘ultimate professional’. Robertson said: ‘For us we block that out, Mo blocks it out. We let other people talk about that.

‘For us there is no concern. For us Mohamed Salah is a Liverpool player and we believe that is what is going to be the case for the foreseeable future.

‘Our squad is what it is and that’s the squad that is going to go forward now with the window shut. It is about getting the most out of the squad, it is about looking forward to the season ahead and trying to do better than what we did last season.

‘He’s the ultimate professional. He does what it does, he is one of the best players in the world and he is professional. He lets other people do the talking, lets other people say what they have to say, but he’s always been committed to Liverpool and you saw that with this performance.

‘He’s not been affected, I’ve been around him a lot and he’s not been affected by anything. Mo has reacted in the best way possible and I think you have seen that with his performance, I think he was pretty special.’

Liverpool put in their most convincing performance of the season in beating Aston Villa 3-0, with Salah getting on the scoresheet alongside summer recruit Dominik Szoboszlai and an own goal. And Robertson says he was delighted with the display against Unai Emery’s strong Villa team.

‘I thought it was probably our best performance of the season so far, which is pleasing,’ he added. ‘We were really in control of the game against a really good team. Since their manager came in they have got themselves into Europe and are a completely different force.

‘I thought we stopped their strengths quite well and scored a couple of goals which meant it was a comfortable afternoon for us. I thought every player was excellent – even the subs who came on – it was a complete squad performance.

‘I think it’s been a really good start for us. Difficult games, difficult fixtures and as much as we could ask for down to 10 men twice in games I think we have played well in games and we are growing as a team and hopefully that continues.

‘Joey (Gomez) and Joel (Matip) were tremendous. The centre-backs were different class, both of them were aggressive in their defending, winning balls playing high up, stepping in when they had to step in.

‘We are missing Ibou (Konate) and Virg (Van Dijk) but you couldn’t really feel it and that’s the biggest compliment I can give the two lads. First clean sheet of the season and hopefully more to come.’
