La Liga audiences are nearing their first sighting of Mason Greenwood after the forward was snapped training with new club Getafe.

Manchester United have sent their academy graduate out on loan to Spain after agreeing a Deadline Day deal with Jose Bordalas' side. And Greenwood is homing in on a debut for the club after getting to grips with his new team-mates this week.

The decision was made for United and Greenwood to part ways – at least for the time being – despite having all charges against him for attempted rape, assault and coercive control dropped in February. The 21-year-old spent 18 months out of the United squad after he was first suspended following his arrest in January 2022.

Greenwood will have his chance to integrate before making his bow given the timing of the international break means Getafe's next game isn't until September 17. They'll host Osasuna on that date seeking their second win of the season, having just missed out on a point at rivals Real Madrid on Saturday thanks to a 95th-minute Jude Bellingham decider.

Young fans cheered after noticing it was Greenwood who had emerged from the tunnel onto the training pitch. And Getafe's official Twitter account posted a video of his arrival, telling their new arrival: "We love you."

"Hi Getafe fans, it's Mason here," said the on-loan forward in a social media message to his new supporters. "I'm so happy to be here and I can't wait to get started."

Greenwood's only recent training experience has been alongside his dad and with individual coaches, but Tuesday's outing was the first time in almost two years that he's trained publicly with a squad. The session took place at Getafe's training ground just outside the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, where the one-cap England international could make his debut in a little less than a fortnight.

The Madrid-based outfit has come under fire from Ana Bella Estevez, founder of domestic abuse charity the Ana Bella Foundation. However, Getafe manager Jose Bordalas defended their decision to sign him after his side's 2-1 defeat away at Real Madrid on Saturday.

He told reporters: “It is a very delicate situation to trivialise this issue. Everyone knows what happened and the appropriate measures were taken, obviously, we can only talk about football.

TNT is the only place you can watch all the action from the Champions League this year. You can see every game from the group stage right through to the final as Manchester City look to defend their crown as the newest kings of the World's biggest and best football tournament.

Regarding the other issues, I believe that the people and the relevant authorities did what they had to do and everyone knows how it ended with a non-conviction sentence therefore he is a free person, a footballer of a very high level and who arrives at Getafe with enormous enthusiasm and that we are obviously going to help him so that he recovers back to his best level.”

Compatriot Bellingham could be considered a shining example to follow on the field, with the £88.5million star having made a terrific start to life in Spain. The former Birmingham prodigy recently became the first Englishman to clinch La Liga's Player of the Month award and has scored five goals in his first four outings for Los Blancos.

That being said, Greenwood faces a far different challenge conjuring up the same impact at Getafe, who finished 15th in La Liga last term. Bordalas steered the club to survival after returning to the helm for his second spell in April, and only three teams scored fewer goals in Spain's top flight.

That's where Greenwood will hope to make his impact, having emerged from United's academy as an attacker of huge potential prior to his enforced absence. The youngster had scored five times in 18 Premier League appearances during the 2021/22 campaign before he was suspended by United.

Upon confirming his loan switch to Spain, a United statement read: "The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition."
