Jadon Sancho is reportedly set to hold ‘showdown talks’ with Erik ten Hag on Monday amid fears there may be no way back for him at Manchester United. The winger landed himself in hot water by accusing his manager of lying over the reasons for his absence from United’s squad against Arsenal before the international break.

Ten Hag explained that Sancho was fully fit to play against the Gunners but was omitted due to his displays in training, a claim that was refuted by the player himself with a bold statement on social media. The outburst was said to have infuriated Ten Hag, who will address it when speaking to Sancho in a face-to-face meeting on Monday, according to The Telegraph.

It is said that United’s manager was left ‘deeply unimpressed’ by Sancho, who dismissed Ten Hag’s remarks as ‘completely untrue’ and cited ‘other reasons’ for his absence against Arsenal. He also suggested that he was being made a ‘scapegoat’ at Old Trafford, with the claims plunging his long-term future at the club in serious doubt.

Ten Hag is said to feel particularly let down by Sancho, given the lengths he went to in his efforts to help the forward last season. He was given time off by the Dutchman to work on his physical and mental condition in a bid to recover his best form and confidence.

The Red Devils were reportedly willing to listen to offers for him during the summer, but no serious bids were forthcoming and he ended up staying in Manchester.

Sancho was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia during the final days of the window, with Steven Gerrard having reportedly been interested in bringing him to Al-Ettifaq. He will instead remain at United for the foreseeable future but could be sold in January if Ten Hag decides not to give him another chance to prove his worth.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. He told CaughtOffside: “It’s going to be difficult for him, and United, to find a club willing to take him, certainly in the Premier League anyway. I think European clubs are more likely to want him.”

Sancho is not Ten Hag’s only problem in attack, with Antony having been given a period of leave after being placed under police investigation. His ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin recently alleged that he assaulted her on multiple occasions, while two other women have since come forward with accusations of their own. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport? Join our Facebook group by clicking here.
