Jadon Sancho has deleted his statement claiming he was made a "scapegoat" at Manchester United.

The Red Devils winger become embroiled in a bitter spat with manager Erik ten Hag after the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. Ten Hag was critical of the Englishman's performances in training when asked why he had not featured.

Sancho then sparked a frenzy by releasing a statement on social media in which he rubbished the Dutchman's comments and claimed he was being made a "scapegoat".

But the 23-year-old has now deleted the statement in question, which caused a stir among fans and pundits after being posted to his Twitter account.

Sancho's statement read: "Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.

"I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

"I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!"

Sancho's future at United came into question after his fiery reply. Both player and manager were set to sit down for showdown talks on Monday to reach a resolution over whether he still had a future at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag himself was left shocked by Sancho's actions, believing the situation had been blown out of proportion. Reports claimed the Dutchman had merely sought to motivate the player.

It is believed Ten Hag would have not stood in Sancho’s way if United had been able to agree a deal to send the former Borussia Dortmund ace to the Saudi Pro League.

But the move collapsed, with Al-Ettifaq manager Steven Gerrard not convinced by a £50million obligation to buy following a loan deal.

Sancho has endured somewhat of a nightmare since his £73m move from Borussia Dortmund two years ago. The 23-year-old has failed to earn regular minutes under each of his last three managers.

Ten Hag initially appeared keen to remedy the talented youngster's situation by sending him on a special training retreat last winter, after which he briefly appeared to have found his confidence. But Sancho has still been unable to keep up his form despite enjoying a brief purple patch in pre-season.
