{"id":287419,"date":"2023-09-12T23:35:34","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T23:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/?p=287419"},"modified":"2023-09-12T23:35:34","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T23:35:34","slug":"robertson-reveals-he-apologised-to-his-team-mates-for-error","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/soccer\/robertson-reveals-he-apologised-to-his-team-mates-for-error\/","title":{"rendered":"Robertson reveals he apologised to his team-mates for error"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Andy Robertson reveals he apologised to his team-mates for an error that led to Jude Bellingham&#8217;s goal in Scotland&#8217;s 3-1 defeat to England&#8230; as the left back insists he &#8216;will be kicking himself tonight&#8217; after &#8216;letting the side down&#8217;<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>England beat Scotland 3-1 in a tense friendly clash at Hampden Park on Tuesday<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Andy Robertson was at fault for the second goal after he failed to clear the ball\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport&#8217;s podcast &#8216;It&#8217;s All Kicking Off&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Andy Robertson has admitted he let Scotland down after his error led to England&#8217;s second goal on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Gareth Southgate&#8217;s side took on the Scots at a boisterous Hampden Park for a clash which was a 150th Anniversary Heritage Match to commemorate England and Scotland\u2019s first encounter in 1872.<\/p>\n<p>The Three Lions started brightly and went ahead through a deft finish from Phil Foden before Robertson failed to clear the ball and Jude Bellingham pounced to make it 2-0 after 35 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Clarke&#8217;s side were given a glimmer of hope when Harry Maguire netted an own goal, but Harry Kane sealed the victory with a third for the Three Lions nine minutes from time.<\/p>\n<p>And, speaking after the game to beIN SPORTS, Liverpool defender Robertson rued his costly mistake and insisted he will do all he can to make up for it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/23\/75355053-12510963-image-a-30_1694556270685.jpg\" height=\"420\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Andy Robertson admitted he let Scotland down after his error during their 3-1 loss to Englamd<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/23\/75355127-12510963-image-a-31_1694556273748.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Robertson failed to clear the ball before Jude Bellingham put Gareth Southgate&#8217;s side 2-0 up<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The second goal is completely my fault,&#8217; he said.\u00a0 &#8216;Obviously that can&#8217;t happen. But you take it on the chin and try and react and in the second half we got ourselves back in the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We had a couple of half chances, the crowd were up and then we gave Harry Kane half a yard and he put the game to bed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I hate letting this team down and that&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve done tonight. I hate costing goals and I just didn&#8217;t quite expect the ball to land at my feet and it has just fallen to him.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He continued: &#8216;And when you&#8217;re coming up against Bellingham with the form he&#8217;s in, he&#8217;s not going to let you get away with it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I had to apologise to the team and the manager. I did that and I just tried to have a positive reaction in the second half and I think I&#8217;ve done that but obviously I&#8217;ll be kicking myself tonight.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The game was seen as a big test for Scotland after their stunning run of form over recent months.<\/p>\n<p>After losing in a World Cup play-off to Ukraine in the summer of 2022, Clarke&#8217;s side have been sensational in Euro 2024 qualifying, winning five out of five games so far.<\/p>\n<p>This means they are almost certain to be in Germany next summer and Robertson insisted the bitter defeat to England shouldn&#8217;t halt the team&#8217;s impressive progress.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/23\/75355067-12510963-image-a-32_1694556276099.jpg\" height=\"415\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Robertson revealed he apologised to his team-mates and said he&#8217;ll be &#8216;kicking himself&#8217; tonight<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/12\/23\/75355085-12510963-image-a-33_1694556277804.jpg\" height=\"445\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>He also insisted that Steve Clarke&#8217;s side shouldn&#8217;t lose their momentum despite the defeat<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8216;Today it was individual errors that probably cost us. We were disappointing in the first half, but were a lot more competitive in the second.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It just shows we&#8217;ve still got room for improvement and we have to work hard.
