John Terry is attempting to purchase a stake in Chelsea – and he has previously voiced his support for the club’s owner Todd Boehly. Terry previously attempted to invest in the Premier League side when Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale last year, but was pipped to the post by Bohely’s firm Clearlake Capital.

The former defender now appears to be back in the running to claim a piece of the pie as pressure continues to mount on Boehly. The American businessman is looking for new investments as Mauricio Pochettino’s men have managed just a single win, against newly promoted Luton Town, this season.

This comes off the back of the Blues registering their second-lowest Premier League finish, 12th place last season – 17 points off a spot to qualify for European football.

The results haven’t been through a lack of investment with over £900 million in transfers since the takeover. Moves including £115m for Moises Caicedo, £106m for Enzo Fernandez and the £90m on Mykhailo Mudryk have done little to improve results, leading Boehly to welcome new investments to the club.

A potential investor is Chelsea’s former captain John Terry who spent just under two decades with the club. Terry won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and the Champions League with the Blues and is keen to get back involved with the team and recently spoke highly of the club’s owner.

“I’ve come across Todd Boehly 5 or 6 times,” Terry said speaking at an event recently. “They are trying all they can. They have all the right intentions.

“Frank was dealing with it closely and they are trying to do the right things long term. All we can do is trust them. I believe we will be back.”

More info

According to The Telegraph, Terry is interested in purchasing a stake in the club along with Chelsea season-ticket holder and chief executive of online technology platform PrimaryBid, Anand Sambasivan. The duo could also be joined by businessman Harley Kisberg with a 10 percent stake being touted.

The investment could also include money from fans which was a similar deal Terry proposed with his ‘True Blue’ consortium that attempted to takeover the club from Abramovich. And despite losing the bid to Boehly it seems that Terry has let bygones be bygones and believes that the American entrepreneur is the right man to lead the Blues forward.

The investment also coincides with US investment firm Ares Management who are in talks over a staggering $500m (£403million) deal. Amid the off-field antics, Chelsea will be hoping to get back to winning ways as they welcome in-form Aston Villa next on Sunday, September 24.
