Peter Schmeichel criticised Manchester United’s mentality after their loss to Bayern Munich, before he aimed a cheeky dig at Jamie Carragher during CBS Sports’ live coverage of the Champions League on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
The much-acclaimed show has been back on our screens this week as Europe’s elite club competition returned with several talking points from the opening group games.<\/p>\n
The panel had been discussing United’s 4-3 defeat to the German champions\u00a0with\u00a0Erik ten Hag’s side having now lost four of their first six games in 2023-24, including three in a row.<\/p>\n
Former United star Schmeichel dissected the result as his former club’s dreadful start to the season continued, before he attempted to get one back on Carragher, who made 737 appearances for Liverpool during his career.<\/p>\n
‘Ten Hag has so many things he needs to do with this squad of players,’ Schmeichel told CBS Sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 4-3 defeat to Bayern means United have now lost four of their first six games this season<\/p>\n
‘There is some talent in there no doubt but he needs to work on the mentality and they need to be stronger.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘You cannot go 1-0 down early in a game, and then the game is over. That is not on and especially it is not on for a club like Man United.’<\/p>\n
Schmeichel then congratulated Thierry Henry – who was working as a pundit in the studio alongside Carragher and host Kate Abdo – following Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over PSV in what was their first Champions League game since 2017, before he turned to the former Liverpool defender.<\/p>\n
‘Jamie loves that team from the Europa League. That’s tomorrow,’ he added, in reference to Liverpool’s participation in the competition this season following their fifth place finish in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Schmeichel then aimed a dig at Jamie Carragher, before the Liverpool legend hit back at him<\/p>\n

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side are back in the Europa League after an eight-year absence<\/p>\n
Carragher then quipped: ‘You’ll be in there in a few weeks, don’t worry’, before the former United goalkeeper replied: ‘Well, we’re still in the Champions League.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Reds begin their Europa League campaign against Austrian side LASK on Thursday in what will be their first game in the competition since 2015-16 when they were runners-up.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, for United, along with Bayern, they are joined by Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen in their Champions League group.<\/p>\n
Those two teams played out a 2-2 draw on Wednesday and the Red Devils host them both next month.<\/p>\n
