Spurs fans are confident that, having “learned his lesson”, Daniel Levy would not be tempted to cash in on the club with bad owners. The response comes after the Tottenham chairman used an interview with Bloomberg to announce that he is open to offers from anywhere in the world if they are in the best interests of the Tottenham shareholders.

Any “serious proposition” is welcome as the club faces a new future now that former owner Joe Lewis has withdrawn from the club after he was charged with insider trading in America.

It was reported earlier this year that Qatar Sports Investments chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi had held discussions with Levy about buying a stake in the club. But Levy has claimed that is not the only interest he has had, with groups from the Far East, elsewhere in the Middle East and the United States all coming forward.

“Nothing has been put on our table that we felt has been in the interests of shareholders,” he said.

It’s not about me, it’s about what’s right for the club.

“We run this club as if it’s a public company. If anyone wants to make a serious proposition to the board of Tottenham we would consider it, along with our advisers, and if we felt it was in the interests of the club we would be open to anything.”

Certain sections of the Spurs crowd would love to see the back of the man who has run the club for the best part of two decades.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. Levy said at the rest fans’ forum that we had ‘got our Tottenham back’ but he was the one who appointed those managers.

“But at least there seems to be an acceptance that they had got it wrong and that at least has brought a lot of joy back to the fans. And anybody who could increase revenue on the first team squad would be welcome as long as people felt they were in keeping with the club.

“But it could not be just anybody.
