but Atalanta flatly refused and wanted a cash-only deal&#8217;<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Man United signed striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta for \u00a372m this summer<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Click here to watch the IAKO Battle of Old Trafford YouTube Special\u00a0from the Mail Sport Studios<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Mail Sport&#8217;s new WhatsApp Channel: Get the breaking news and exclusives here\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Manchester United reportedly offered two players to Atalanta in their attempts to sign Rasmus Hojlund this summer.<\/p>\n<p>After a prolonged pursuit, amid rival interest from PSG, United completed a \u00a372million move for the Danish striker\u00a0at the end of July.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Erik ten Hag was desperate to bring in attacking reinforcements after relying on the inconsistent Anthony Martial, along with January loan signing Wout Weghorst last season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hojlund&#8217;s United debut was delayed after scans detected a back problem during the 20-year-old&#8217;s medical, but the Dane has impressed in his three appearances for the club and netted his first Red Devils goal during the 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his tender age, Hojlund already looks like a shrewd investment by Erik ten Hag, but, according to The Athletic, United&#8217;s initial struggles to agree a deal with Atalanta led to them offering two first team players in exchange.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/23\/09\/75754845-12552069-image-a-8_1695458576878.jpg\" height=\"405\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Manchester United offered two players to Atalanta in their attempts to sign Rasmus Hojlund<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/23\/09\/75754847-12552069-image-a-9_1695458579870.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Erik ten Hag also had a key role in the signing after having several video calls with Hojlund<\/p>\n<p>The report states how\u00a0Lee Congerton, Atalanta\u2019s head of senior recruitment, believed Hojlund was worth\u00a0\u20ac100m (\u00a387m).<\/p>\n<p>This meant United kept other options open in case the Serie A side refused to budge, with Randal Kolo Muani &#8211; who eventually joined PSG for\u00a0\u20ac95m (\u00a383m) &#8211; lined up as an alternative.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to offset the cost and get the deal done, United offered midfielders Donny van de Beek and Fred in exchange.<\/p>\n<p>However, this was flatly refused by Atalanta, who solely wanted cash, before a deal was eventually struck between the clubs at \u00a372m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ten Hag was reportedly a key figure in the move, holding several video calls with Hojlund, which led to the player appreciating how much United&#8217;s manager wanted to sign him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Dutchman was able to suss out Hojlund during the conversations and is said to have become convinced the forward&#8217;s strong character and personality would mean he could cope with the pressure of playing for a club like United.<\/p>\n<p>He is believed to have been impressed by Hojlund&#8217;s desire to keep improving and felt his personality also put him above others in the list of potential attacking additions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/23\/09\/75754871-12552069-image-m-14_1695458707663.jpg\" height=\"384\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/23\/09\/75754857-12552069-image-m-16_1695458714818.jpg\" height=\"384\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>United offered Donny van de Beek (left) and Fred (right) to Atalanta to try and get a deal done<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/23\/09\/75754875-12552069-image-a-13_1695458589047.jpg\" height=\"434\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Hojlund made his debut earlier in September after being described as a &#8216;beast&#8217;
