Manuel Neuer’s long-awaited comeback has been delayed again after he failed to make the Bayern Munich squad for Tuesday’s German DFB Cup tie against SC Preussen Munster.

The 37-year-old has been out of action since breaking his leg in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps more than nine months ago.

Neuer returned to training in August and was pencilled in to return in the cup tie against the third tier minnows.

But Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel revealed on Monday that Daniel Peretz, 23, would make his debut following his summer arrival from Maccabi Tel Aviv for £4million.

The club have not put a time frame on Neuer’s return and are happy to continue with long-standing deputy Sven Ulreich, backed by Peretz and youth goalkeeper Tom Ritzy Hulsmann.

According to X account @iMiaSanMia, Tuchel said: ‘Sven Ulreich is doing a good job, making good saves and trying to implement things in build-up plat.

‘He’s made several important saves for us. We’re very happy. Daniel Peretz is also going well. Like Mathys, he has the right mindset and approach to play for Bayern.

‘We have a good goalkeeping team and are very happy.’

Since the emergency operation on his right leg, Neuer has been going through a rollercoaster rehab.

At the end of August he was already in team training, after which problems suddenly appeared in the other leg – his left calf.
