All the talk after the match was about Szoboszlai’s goal of the season contender, as he rifled in a shot from just outside the box that crashed into the net off the underside of the bar.

It was the 22-year-old’s second goal in Liverpool colours, following his move from RB Leipzig in the summer, and it brought comparisons to one of the club’s greatest ever number eights, in Steven Gerrard.

‘I have already seen enough of Dominik Szoboszlai to tell you that he is the closest thing to Steven Gerrard that I’ve seen since his retirement.

Szoboszlai will be in the Kevin De Bryune and Eden Hazard category in no time. And if he stays at Liverpool for a 5-6 years, he will be in the Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard conversation. You heard it here first.

Unreal talent, great attitude and the best coach behind him – Sky is the limit.’

Gerrard played over 700 games for Liverpool, scoring 185 goals and led the club to to two FA Cups, three League Cups, the UEFA Cup and that glorious night in Istanbul in 2005 when they won the Champions League after coming from three goals down against AC Milan.
