A boxer who suffered brain bleeding and spent 221 days in a coma has posted a health update.

Promising fighter Prichard Colon was left with life-changing injuries after his super welterweight match against Terrel Williams in October 2015. Williams punched the back of Colon’s head repeatedly throughout the contest, before knocking the Puerto Rican down for the first time in his career in the ninth round.

Prichard complained of being dizzy and later collapsed, before being rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with a 1.5cm left-sided subdural hematoma on the brain. He was placed into a 221-day coma and underwent surgery to reduce his brain swelling and clear the hematoma.

The 31-year-old still requires constant care from his mother, Nieves, eight years on as he aims to slowly recover. And Colon has vowed to keep battling in a new video shared on his Facebook page.

Prichard can be seen interacting with his mother in the clip, responding to her comments and even trying on different pairs of glasses. He also fist-bumps her, with the post being captioned: “Where are my supporters, they never give up on me.”
