Pep Guardiola may have forgotten Hwang Hee-chan’s name in his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Molineaux Stadium on Saturday but he will no doubt be all too familiar with it now after the Wolves forward scored the deciding goal in a humiliating 2-1 defeat for the reigning Premier League champions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Guardiola was very complimentary of the “quality individuals” in Wolves’ squad, particularly up front. When discussing what kind of a threat the Wanderers pose he highlighted their front three of Pedro Neto, Matheus Cunha and “the Korean guy” (Hwang) as their most dangerous weapons.<\/p>\n
“When you see the quality individually that they have…” said Guardiola. “Especially up front with Neto, with Cunha, with the Korean guy… they are really, really good.” Guardiola’s comments would come back to haunt him when Hwang put Wolves 2-1 up in the 66th minute.<\/p>\n
Some excellent defending from the home side helped see out the game as City fell to defeat in the league for the first time this season. Wolves’ social media team added insult to injury for Guardiola when they uploaded the goal graphic for Hwang’s brace with the caption “THE KOREAN GUY”.<\/p>\n
Wolves were on the ropes for most of the game but the hosts took the lead courtesy of\u00a0an own goal from Ruben Dias in the 13th minute. Julian Alvarez responded with a tidy free kick to draw the Citizens level as it seemed Guardiola’s men would go on and win it.<\/p>\n
But Hwang had other ideas as he slotted away the winner from close range after Manuel Akanji failed to clear his lines. The South Korean international has been in fine form this season, netting four times in seven Premier League games.<\/p>\n
