{"id":289960,"date":"2023-10-04T00:24:19","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T00:24:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/?p=289960"},"modified":"2023-10-04T00:24:19","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T00:24:19","slug":"tony-ferguson-says-a-little-part-of-me-left-when-khabib-retired","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/mma\/tony-ferguson-says-a-little-part-of-me-left-when-khabib-retired\/","title":{"rendered":"Tony Ferguson says &apos;a little part of me left&apos; when Khabib retired"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Tony Ferguson says &#8216;a little part of me left&#8217; when Khabib Nurmagomedov retired as UFC veteran admits he hoped undefeated icon would come back for the fight that never happened<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov were booked to fight five times\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The fight never took place and Khabib retired after going 29-0 and in 2020\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tony Ferguson has admitted that he felt like a little part of him left with Khabib Nurmagomedov with the Russian when he retired from MMA.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson was long seen as the biggest threat to Khabib&#8217;s undefeated record but the fight never happened, despite it being booked five times.<\/p>\n<p>Injuries, a failed weight cut and Covid-19 were all to blame and any hopes of the fight ever taking place came to an end when Khabib hung up his gloves back in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I know when Khabib left, a little part of me left with that,&#8217; Ferguson told The MMA Hour. &#8216;It kind of sucked a little bit because we&#8217;ve always had that, I don&#8217;t want to say negative energy, but that hype that was built around that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Then when that disappeared and the pandemic hit and the f***ing team left and then just a whole bunch there was nothing else left for me kind of.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/03\/18\/76124345-12589769-image-a-21_1696354758887.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Tony Ferguson (R) says a little part of him left with Khabib Nurmagomedov (L) when he left\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Except what I told myself is I wanted to compete.
