It was just across Stanley Park 14 months ago that Bournemouth were humiliated 9-0 against the red half of Merseyside and, days later, sacked their manager Scott Parker.

Though the score was not as bruising here, the display and haplessness of the Cherries was just as worrying.

Will the same outcome await Andoni Iraola as Parker in August 2022? Any hint of pre-season positivity about the Spanish tactician has evaporated and Bournemouth are yet to win, scoring a league-low five goals.

Everton won 3-0 but it could have been much higher. The Toffees have been left to rue missed chances this season and they squandered plenty more here – luckily for them they put some openings away, too.

Whichever boss lost this match was going to be subject to intense scrutiny, Iraola winless in the league and Sean Dyche having seen four straight home defeats. But the Everton boss was instead hailing perhaps the most complete performance of his tenure.

Everton cruised to victory against Bournemouth and displayed promising signs of recovery

Sean Dyche will be keen to use the result as a springboard after a poor run for his side

‘It’ll be a relaxing weekend, a nice warm glow, everything just tastes a bit better,’ he said after goals from James Garner, Jack Harrison and Abdoulaye Doucoure. ‘That’s why you’re in football, you do it for these moments.’

Dyche talks about changing the ‘story’ and the ‘noise’ around the club after many matches when they have been the better side but have still lost. This can be a springboard.

Garner buzzed around midfield and controlled the game on and off the ball, while wingers Harrison and Dwight McNeil were top class. Dominic Calvert-Lewin did not score but he bullied Bournemouth’s defenders.

This is three wins from the last four now and it feels like Dyche is moulding a balanced side.

‘There was no panic at all (in losses) because we’ve been playing very well at home,’ said Garner. ‘We created so many big chances. Hopefully it now changes.’

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is still awaiting his first win with any positivity evaporating
