Lee Trundle was once left red-faced after falling for the tricks of eccentric boss Graham Westley.

Trundle, best known for spells with Swansea and Bristol City in the Championship, was keen to return to England with Preston in the third tier after Westley had taken over. In a test of his character, Westley invented a training regime to see if the playmaker would take part.

Appearing on Under the Cosh, Westley explained how the famous first-meeting in his office came about and how long it took Liverpool-born forward to realise it was a joke, to the delight of captain John Mousinho.

UPDATE: Graham Westley wants to return to management and 'misses being in the dugout'

Westley said: "(I asked Trundle) Are you a team player? We do like to do things differently. We're always searching for the 1%, looking for a bit of an advantage.

"I told him I'm quite into yoga and I see Moose's head (Mousinho) look at me as if to say: 'When have we ever done yoga'."

"As he looked I said animal yoga. Moose then looks like he's choking. Trundle is looking at me as if to say: 'What is that?'."

Westley then asked if Trundle was open to new things, telling him to get down on all fours on the floor as he and Mousinho looked on.

The manager told Trundle: "Let's go with an elephant and relax into it. Shut your eyes. Lee is on the floor and I said he's probably starting to feel a trunk coming.

"I said you know when elephants pur, they get excited and start making their noise. I said: 'Have you got that in you?."

"So Trundle is on the floor in my office (doing an impression of an elephant) at which point me and Moose broke down.

"Trundle looks up and said: 'You've done me haven't you. You've done me.'"

Westley, 55, then explained how he wasn't intending to mock the new signing, who would go on to play only two games for the club, but to find out of he had the character to join the group.
