Retired goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has claimed that Andre Onana will be ‘finished’ at Manchester United, should Erik ten Hag get sacked or leave the club.

Onana, 27, was signed for £47.1m transfer from Inter Milan during the summer window in a bid to help shore-up up the Red Devils’ defence.

However, the Cameroonian’s stint at Old Trafford has not gone to plan thus far after a number of high-profile errors have caused concerns over the 27-year-old.

Club legend Rio Ferdinand recently ripped into Onana and questioned the ‘nerves’ shown by the former Inter Milan goalkeeper.

And now, former Premier League keeper Schwarzer insisted he’s ‘always questioned’ Onana’s abilities.

Speaking to Optus Sport, Schwarzer said: ‘It’s interesting because ten Hag obviously has brought in a number of ex-Ajax players that he’s worked with before in the in the Dutch League.

‘I’ve watched Onana quite a bit over the years. I know he played well, last year in Inter, but I’ve always questioned how would a goalkeeper is.

‘I know, I know he’s good with his feet. But he’s also used to playing in leagues where they’re going to dominate the game where it’s in Ajax or whether it’s in Inter Milan and have a lot more time on the ball, they don’t get closed down as much.

‘The energy and the high pace is not the same. So that was always a big question as well. So if he’s not doing well with his feet, what is he’s good at what is he good at?’.

Mail Sport’s Chris Sutton recently claimed that United have blundered by signing Onana and would have been far better off sticking with David de Gea.

And now Schwarzer has chimed in with his own take on the matter and named a former Premier League keeper who thinks surpasses Onana’s abilities.

‘I actually think technically as a goalkeeper, I think he’s just okay. And I think we’re seeing that now. So his feet are not working very well. The team is not set up well enough. They haven’t probably got the players to help him out.

‘We saw it with Claudio Bravo when he first went to Manchester City, very, very good goalkeeper his feet but got found out because technically, I think maybe not the best goalkeeper.

‘I actually think Bravo is a better goalkeeper than Onana, let’s be honest. So yeah, absolute disaster. It couldn’t have gone any worse for Onana in his start at Old Trafford.

Onana failed to stop Mathias Jensen’s (far right) shot in United’s weekend win over Brentford

There is growing uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s future as Man United manager amid poor form

‘I don’t know whether or not he’s going to be able to pull himself out of the trouble that he’s in. And I think if ten Hag he loses his job, I think Onana will be finished’.

The Cameroon International was at fault again on Saturday when he allowed Mathias Jensen’s strike past him as Brentford took the lead at Old Trafford.

United came back to win thanks to two Scott McTominay goals deep into stoppage time to give beleaguered manager Erik ten Hag some valuable breathing space.

Additionally, a poor pass against Galatasaray earlier in midweek contributed to the Red Devils losing a second successive home game, and directly resulted in Brazil star Casemiro getting sent off.

It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, launching with a preview show today and every week this season.

It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify

Your browser does not support iframes.

IT’S ALL KICKING OFF!
