Nicolas Jarry’s celebrated his fourth-round win at the Shanghai Masters on Tuesday with a pitch invader – his young son Juan.<\/p>\n
The Chilean beat Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 to\u00a0book a quarter-final meeting with world No 19 Grigor Dimitrov, who knocked the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.<\/p>\n
Jarry’s wife, Laura, and their sons, 18-month old Juan and newborn Santiago, were in attendance in Shanghai to cheer him on.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And as the world No 22 took a breather after winning the match and signed the camera lens, Juan trotted onto the court to join him.<\/p>\n
Jarry picked up his son and gave him a hug, before sitting him on his courtside seat, with Juan clearly enjoying the experience and looking unfazed by the new surroundings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The adorable exchange was captured by the cameras, with the commentators noting Santiago may be\u00a0following in his father’s footsteps one day.<\/p>\n
Tuesday was a special day for Jarry, who turned 28 and reached the quarter-final of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time in his career.<\/p>\n
The Chilean received a birthday cake and was serenaded with a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ by tournament staff.<\/p>\n
‘I think this is my third or fourth birthday here in Shanghai,’ Jarry told reporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Usually I’m alone, very far from Chile, and the time zone are opposite, so usually I don’t have anyone to call, just in the morning or in the night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘So to be able to be with them is very special.’<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old also credited his family with inspiring to take his game to a new level.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Since I was able to start a family, I’ve been able to shift the perspective a little bit bigger, greater, more sense of what’s really important,’ he explained.<\/p>\n
‘I’m trying to be able to get strong with what it is to have a family, to have more motivation on court, or have a bigger goal than just winning the matches.’<\/p>\n

The world No 22 will play\u00a0world No 19 Grigor Dimitrov, who knocked the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz 5-7, 6-2, 6-4<\/p>\n
Jarry compiled a decisive 44-17 edge in winners, but admitted he felt the match was slipping away from him after\u00a0Schwartzman took the second set.<\/p>\n
‘I’m very happy to be able to come back after that second set,’ he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I was struggling a little bit. I tried to push myself. It’s very tough to play against Diego because of [our] history.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Mentally he is so strong, a great competitor and he makes every ball. You have to work a lot and I’m very happy to overcome it.’<\/p>\n
