Ex-Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson was booed off at Wembley by England fans during the Three Lions clash against Australia.

While he was named as England skipper for their Friday night friendly against Australia, in what was a back-up side selected by Gareth Southgate, Henderson was booed off on 62 minutes by fans at Wembley. The Al-Ettifaq midfielder, who swapped the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League in the summer, was replaced by Man City's Kalvin Phillps.

But as he headed off the pitch, the boos for Henderson were audible. Plenty of football fans, especially those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community felt let down when the former Liverpool skipper opted to move to Saudi Arabia, where homosexuality and gay marriage is criminalised.

Previously, Henderson had been a vocal advocate and ally of the LGBTQ+ community, but his decision to join Al-Ettifaq over the summer has left his reputation in tatters. So, when he was named England skipper by Southgate for their friendly against Australia, plenty of eyebrows were raised.

Midway through the second half at Wembley, England took the lead against Australia through striker Ollie Watkins. However, moments later, the celebrations turned to boos when Henderson was substituted. And fans on social media who heard the anger directed at Henderson reckon he should not play for England ever again.
