Alpine have announced that British sport stars Trent Alexander-Arnold, Rory McIlroy and Anthony Joshua are part of an investment group pumping £164million into the F1 outfit. Otro Capital first announced a partnership with Alpine earlier this summer, with Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney named as a few of the backers for the American group.

The investment group took a 24 per cent equity stake in Alpine Racing at the time, meaning their value jumped up to £700m following the cash influx. And Otro Capital have now made another leap forward in their bid to financially back Alpine’s goal of challenging at the front of the F1 grid in the coming years with another ‘strategic investment’.

They’ve brought in sporting superstars in McIlroy, Alexander-Arnold and Joshua. And the British trio have also been joined by NFL duo Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce as well as former Manchester United and Chelsea hero Juan Mata.

McIlroy said: “Passion for excellence on the golf course has led me to admire the same pursuit in Formula 1. Partnering with Otro Capital in Alpine F1 is an exhilarating venture that unites my love for sports, competition, and the relentless drive to be the best.”

Alexander-Arnold also spoke of his excitement about investing into Alpine, along with his brother Tyler. He said: “Having been to Formula 1 races as a fan, I love the high-pressure environment of the paddock and I’ve seen firsthand how incredibly impressive the Alpine team is. Our shared goal as an investment group is to help contribute to its continued success on the grid, at a time when F1 is facing incredible growth as a sport.

“As a footballer, I understand the importance of teamwork, innovation and determination in achieving goals.” Alpine are currently on a mission to begin challenging for championships in the next few years.

More info

After Esteban Ocon won the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021, Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi set a ‘100-race project’ for the team to fight for championship titles. That goal roughly targets the 2026 F1 Championship as Alpine’s goal to begin challenging with the likes of Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari at the front of the grid.

There’s just 61 races remaining for Alpine to achieve that goal, but they’ve taken a backward step this year. Alpine duo Pierre Gasly and Ocon have struggled to challenge with those fighting towards the front for most of the 2023 campaign.

The French duo each have a podium, but Ocon has been forced to retire from five races in total.
