La Liga 2 side Levante marked International Breast Cancer Day with a special kit design in a recent fixture.

The club took on Racing Ferrol on Monday (October 16) and opened up the game by showcasing a unique kit that symbolised a mastectomy, with a breast on one side and a scar on the other. The kit paid tribute to International Breast Cancer Day which is on Thursday (October 19).

As they walked out onto the pitch at Estadi Ciutat de València, the players were applauded by fans as the subject is not only an important issue globally but especially in Spain where 35,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year, according to the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM).

Levante ended up claiming all three points in a 1-0 victory thanks to a lone Dani Gomez goal. Following the victory, the players signed their shirts which will be auctioned off on the Match Worn Shirt web platform, with proceeds of the sales going to the Valencia branch of the Spanish Association against Cancer.

On Levante's official website, a statement on their support for the fight against breast cancer read: "Levante UD counted on the collaboration of the coaching staff and the players themselves, who will proudly show off their personal support for cancer patients in this match, as well as the main sponsor, given that Marcos Automoción did not hesitate to give up their space on the shirt so that this initiative could be carried out."

It's Levante's second consecutive season in La Liga 2 since their relegation from the top-flight in 2021 but a promising start to the season where they sit third after six wins in their opening 11 games breeds hope that they make a swift return to the premier division of Spanish football.
