Jon Jones has pulled out of his much-anticipated clash with Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 through injury – coming as a major blow to fans who paid thousands for tickets in New York.

Just over two weeks until his scheduled bout, UFC President Dana White revealed that Jones is off the card at Madison Square Garden after tearing a pectoral tendon in training, meaning he will now undergo surgery ahead of a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

The showdown with Miocic was being sold as a potential swansong for the 36-year-old, who many consider to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time. As a result, fans had forked out eye-watering amounts to be there on November 11.

White also announced that Miocic too is off the card entirely, with Tom Aspinall vs Sergei Pavlovich instead taking place for the interim heavyweight title on the night.

However, fans who coughed up big money to watch Jones’ potential farewell are not best pleased with the outcome.

One wrote on X: ‘This can’t be happening. I bought these ridiculously overpriced tickets for nothing. Why did Jon Jones have to get hurt.’

Others, meanwhile, demanded refunds after parting with huge sums to watch Jones in the flesh.

One commented: ‘Tickets and hotels all booked then your gonna tell me Jon Jones is out 2 weeks before the fight. #UFC295 I want my money back.’

Another said: ‘Paid $1100 per ticket to not see Jon Jones. Went to [UFC] 292 and there were a million pull outs as well. This will be my last live ufc event for quite some time’.

A third put: ‘@ufc with jon Jones out are you offering refunds for tickets? Face value is down by more than half and will keep going. Help the fans out!’

A fourth posted: ‘@ufc @danawhite with Jon Jones and Stipe out of the main event, do the right thing and either refund or discount tickets including those already sold. Fans paid a large premium to see two legends at the world’s most famous arena. Ticket price does not equate to the new card.’

While one concluded: ‘I want at least half my money back if Jon Jones isn’t fighting. Those tickets aren’t worth it anymore’.

It is currently unclear whether the UFC will be offering refunds after Jones’ injury pullout.

With Jones no longer in action, fans are calling for the UFC to refund their big-money tickets

Jones had eyed his bout with Miocic as potentially the last of his decorated career.

He believed that victory over the consensus best heavyweight ever would further solidify his own legacy.

It remains to be seen now whether Jones will forge his long path back to the fight after extensive surgery and rehabilitation.

Although it is a massive blow for the promotion and for Jones, the opportunity for Aspinall is significant.

He roared back into the win column with victory over Marcin Tybura in London this March and a fight with the fearsome Russian, Pavlovich, is a worthy co-main event in New York.
