Tottenham could pick between Bournemouth star Lloyd Kelly and Uruguay international Sebastian Caceres as they plot their first January transfer window signing. Both players have been linked with Spurs ahead of the winter transfer window, with Ange Postecoglou looking at potentially bolstering his defensive options.

The north Londoners have been exceptional defensively this season and have set the pace in the Premier League. However, Postecoglou is still keen to strengthen his squad in the winter market.

Spurs have been most strongly linked with defenders ahead of the window. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have formed an excellent centre-back partnership in the opening months of the campaign but more depth is required.

Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly has been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as back-up to Postecoglou’s impressive pair. According to Give Me Sport, Spurs have made ‘detailed checks’ on the 25-year-old and he could be a potential target.

The 24-year-old has excelled for Club America since joining the club in 2020 and could be set for a move to Europe.

A new centre-back is likely to be a priority in January with a lack of depth outside of the established pairing of Romero and Van de Ven. Davinson Sanchez departed for Galatasaray in the summer, while Eric Dier seems destined to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Dier has not featured at all for Spurs this season and has made just four matchday squads despite the lack of strength in defensive areas. As a contrast, the 29-year-old played the entire 90 minutes in all of Spurs’ first 11 games last season under Antonio Conte.
