Manchester United are reportedly considering adding to their striker department in the January transfer window to help release the burden on Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford an unknown in a £72million deal which has of yet, has seen the 20-year-old fail to score a Premier League goal. The Denmark international saw his debut delayed due to a back injury and is still settling into his role at United.

There’s no doubt that despite his injury concerns, Hojlund is Erik ten Hag’s main striker after starting all three Champions League games – which brought three goals in as many games, and starting the previous six league outings.

But with Antony Martial the only senior alternative to Hojlund through the middle, as Marcus Rashford continues to operate off the left-hand side despite his dire start to the season. United are reportedly considering bringing in an experienced head at the turn of the year.

According to the Daily Mail, given his age, the club feel that signing an experienced number nine would aid Hojlund’s development, while Martial appears to have no long-term future at the club with his deal set to expire in the summer.

The club are also said to be interested in Porto striker Mehdi Taremi, 31, whose contract expires at the end of the season. They also still hold an interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, whose recent fallout with the club was well-publicised.
