{"id":293015,"date":"2023-11-04T00:25:31","date_gmt":"2023-11-04T00:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/?p=293015"},"modified":"2023-11-04T00:25:31","modified_gmt":"2023-11-04T00:25:31","slug":"brazilian-grand-prix-grandstand-roof-at-interlagos-collapses-in-storm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/racing\/f1\/brazilian-grand-prix-grandstand-roof-at-interlagos-collapses-in-storm\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazilian Grand Prix: Grandstand roof at Interlagos COLLAPSES in storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Brazilian Grand Prix: Grandstand roof at Interlagos COLLAPSES as violent storms sweep through Sao Paulo on F1 weekend<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Photographers captured the wreckage at the circuit that sent fans running\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Q3 was cut short due to the storm, with Max Verstappen claiming Sunday&#8217;s pole\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>DailyMail.com provides all the latest international sports news\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fans were left streaming for the exits after heavy winds and lashing rain descended upon the Friday qualifying session for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos.<\/p>\n<p>Those winds saw the roof on one of the grandstands\u00a0near the final corner of the circuit at the storied Brazilian track collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Mail Sport understands that a handful of spectators had cuts and bruises but not as a result of the collapse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The injuries were picked up as people scampered out of the rain and nobody was hospitalised.<\/p>\n<p>The forecast is for better weather over the weekend but Interlagos is notorious for sudden spikes of rain.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/03\/23\/77386445-12708977-image-a-6_1699053430585.jpg\" height=\"465\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The roof on at least one grandstand at Interlagos collapsed after a storm swept through<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/03\/23\/77386443-12708977-F1-a-7_1699053455098.jpg\" height=\"493\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>F1 photographer Andy Hone captured these images of the wreckage from the sudden squall<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/03\/23\/77386447-12708977-image-a-3_1699053385933.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The storm led to officials cutting Q3 short &#8211; with Max Verstappen claiming pole for Sunday<\/p>\n<p>Track officials say that the grandstands will be inspected before being reopened for Saturday&#8217;s sprint shootout and sprint race sessions.<\/p>\n<p>F1 photographer Andy Hone, who was trackside when the collapse occurred, tweeted: &#8216;What a scary 10 minutes on track! A grandstand roof collapsed at the last corner and nearly got decapitated by falling debris!&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Multiple videos on social media appeared to show roofs being torn loose and blowing away.
