Mikel Arteta has seemingly ended his week-long battle against Premier League officials and the VAR system accepting Fabio Vieira’s red card was the right decision during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Burnley.

Oliver was quick in deciding to brandish the red card with VAR standing with the on-field decision. There were muted protests from the Arsenal players at the time, but Arteta had no issues with the decision after the game.

He said: “The red card. VAR was right. The referee was right.” Arteta’s verdict on Vieira’s red card was in stark contrast to his furious take on VAR this past week.

The Arsenal boss launched a scathing rant at VAR after Newcastle’s late against the Gunners was allowed to stand despite checks for three separate problems.

After calling it “embarrassing and an “absolute disgrace”, Arteta continued to fume: “It’s not acceptable, there’s too much at stake. I don’t want to be in the hands of these people. I don’t know how to feel.

“I’m wasting my time, we are wasting our time. It’s difficult enough to compete against Newcastle – they are a really good team, but we have to talk about how the hell this goal stood. It’s an absolute disgrace it was allowed. For more than one reason it should not be a goal.
