Conor McGregor is one of the biggest names in combat sports across the world and he's certainly making a splash on the alcoholic beverage scene.

The UFC star, who also showed off his talents in a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, previously sold his Proper 12 whiskey majority stake. But he soon moved into the stout business.

It's a bold move for a country so invested in one stout already in Guinness. But McGregor's Forged is now taking part and could well take over.

Forged Irish Stout has taken over Porterhouse brewery in Dublin and aims to become a 24/7 operation in the future. But it's already producing plenty of stout with over 500 UK pubs stocking the new black stuff on tap.

Taking a step inside the brewery, the sheer volume of machinery takes you aback. McGregor has not scrimped in his ambitious attempt to take on Guinness in the battle of the stouts.

Forged originally struggled to find manufacturers for their cans, which need a widget to allow the drink to be poured in one compared to your regular draught pint. Though when one company said they can provide three million cans, Forged's brilliant team immediately knew they would need more.

Crates and crates of the drink fill a warehouse connected to the brewery with cans being shipped over to the UK and America.

All of Forged is being brewed in its Dublin brewery, with the drink distributed both sides of the Atlantic.

It’s a hardworking operation with McGregor at the centre of it. Not a thing goes on at the brewery with the Notorious knowing about it.

As for the drink itself, it definitely compares to the G-word. As a novice stout drinker, I’d describe Forged as creamier with McGregor’s drink certainly not as heavy on the stomach as Guinness.

McGregor once spoke about not being here to take part – and Forged could certainly take over.
