Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino made a beeline for the officials immediately after the final whistle in Chelsea’s pulsating 4-4 draw with Manchester City on Sunday night. Tempers were running high all evening at Stamford Bridge, all starting with VAR’s controversial decision to award City a penalty in the first half.

Pochettino was incensed at the decision, remonstrating with the fourth official on the side of the pitch. The Chelsea boss then embarked on an emotional rollercoaster on the touchlines, as did his opposite number Pep Guardiola.

The lead changed hands three times throughout the match as City thought they had won it with Rodri’s deflected goal off Thiago Silva’s boot. But Armando Broja won his side a penalty in stoppage time with Cole Palmer confidently slotting the spot-kick past Ederson to make it 4-4.

Both teams were still pushing for a winner in the dying seconds of the match and Marc Cucurella had the chance to break for Chelsea after winning the ball back in his own half.

However, Cucurella was stopped from progressing with the ball to the frustration of the home fans as the referee blew the final whistle. Pochettino wasted no time in entering the pitch after the game was brought to a finish and appeared irate with Anthony Taylor.

The Chelsea boss was seen wagging his hand and angrily shouting in the direction of Taylor and his co-officials. Pochettino’s staff ended up holding him back from getting any closer to the referee to avoid the situation escalating any further.
