{"id":294117,"date":"2023-11-15T18:24:16","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T18:24:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/?p=294117"},"modified":"2023-11-15T18:24:16","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T18:24:16","slug":"andrey-rublev-slams-his-racquet-into-his-knee-in-frustration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportsloveme.com\/tennis\/andrey-rublev-slams-his-racquet-into-his-knee-in-frustration\/","title":{"rendered":"Andrey Rublev slams his racquet into his KNEE in frustration"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev furiously slams his racquet into his knee SIX TIMES during a meltdown in Turin &#8211; as he suffers defeat against Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP Finals<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Wimbledon champion cruised to victory in straight sets 7-5 6-2 in Italy\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Alcaraz makes his debut ATP Finals appearance after missing out due to injury\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Rublev&#8217;s defeats to Daniil Medvedev and the Spaniard makes qualifying unlikely\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Andrey Rublev cut open his knee after hitting himself six times with his racquet during a burst of on-court frustration against Carlos Alcaraz during their ATP Finals clash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After being overturned 7-5 in the opening set, the Russian world No 5 cut an increasingly pent-up figure as he crashed his racquet into the court after missing a shot to hand Alcaraz break point in the first game of the second.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Missing the ensuing shot and being broken by the Wimbledon champion, the 26-year-old chose to punish himself, bringing the racquet down again and again until his kneecap was bloodied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An emotional Rublev was then tended to by members of his team during the break between games, and continued play with the wound continuing to weep.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Upon Rublev&#8217;s unravelling, Alcaraz &#8211; who had been matched well in the first set until his final break of serve &#8211; was able to waltz away with the victory in their first career meeting in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/16\/77839471-12753447-image-a-25_1700066938336.jpg\" height=\"487\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/16\/77839469-12753447-image-m-24_1700066933190.jpg\" height=\"487\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>Andrey Rublev vented his frustration during his ATP Finals clash with Carlos Alcaraz by hitting his racquet against his knee six times<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/16\/77837853-12753447-image-a-5_1700066175824.jpg\" height=\"451\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The world No 5 was forced to play on with a bleeding kneecap as he saw out the nervy defeat<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/15\/16\/77837857-12753447-image-a-6_1700066194539.jpg\" height=\"425\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Rublev had earlier taken out his fury on the court after setting Alcaraz up for break point<\/p>\n<p>When asked about his knee injury after Wednesday&#8217;s match, Rublev was reticent when he pronounced it &#8216;okay&#8217;, adding: &#8216;nothing.
