Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr will not play again in 2023 after picking up a hamstring injury while on international duty with Brazil.

Vinicius Jr received treatment for the issue during his side’s 2-1 defeat against Colombia on Thursday night, and it was initially hoped that he could return within a month.

However, Madrid have now confirmed that he suffered a tear which has affected the tendons in his left hamstring.

The club released a statement on Saturday that read: ‘Following tests carried out today on our player Vinicius Jr. by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a tear in his left femoral bicep which is affecting the tendon in his hamstring. His recovery will be monitored.’

While Madrid did not give a timeline for Vinicius Jr’s return, the 23-year-old is expected to miss the next two and a half months of action, according to COPE journalist Arancha Rodriguez.

This would mean Vinicius Jr could be out until February, which would be a major blow for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The Spanish giants have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, and Vinicius Jr may face a race to get back in time for the first leg of their last-16 tie that will be played in February.

Bellingham is currently nursing a shoulder problem that ruled him out of international duty with England, although his injury is not expected to be a long-term issue.

But Tchouameni and Camavinga are dealing with more serious setbacks. Tchouameni is expected to spend another six weeks away from the first team, while Camavinga sustained knee ligament damage after joining up with France and will not play again until January.
