England fans were in agreement that the 1-1 draw with North Macedonia featured the "worst refereeing performance ever".

Gareth Southgate's Three Lions concluded their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a lacklustre performance on their travels, with the game overshadowed by the decisions of Slovakian official Filip Glova.

He failed to award the hosts an early penalty when Harry Maguire bundled into one of their attackers, but then gave a highly-controversial spot kick against Rico Lewis after being sent to the monitor by VAR.

Outside of the game's two major decisions, Glova continued to make eyebrow-raising calls with Channel 4 co-commentator Dion Dublin repeatedly calling him out throughout the second half.

His thoughts were echoed by supporters watching on at home, with one arguing: "Worst refereeing performance I’ve ever seen, he’s got literally everything wrong."

A second echoed: "This is genuinely one of the worst refereeing performances I have ever seen." A third similarly fumed: "This is one of the worst refereeing displays I’ve ever seen. Not even getting the basics right."

A fourth commented: "One of the worst refereeing displays I’ve ever seen and no bias in that opinion, he’s made an equal amount of terrible decisions in both teams favour."

While a fifth added: "This might be one of the worst refereeing performances I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a few." And even Clive Tyldesley got in on the action, joking: "Good commercial for Premier League refereeing."

Aside from the officiating, Southgate didn't get the performance he would've been hoping for after the drab 2-0 victory over Malta last Friday. England were once again off the pace in Skopje.

Jordan Pickford saved Enis Bardhi's first-half penalty but the North Macedonian midfielder turned home the rebound to sum up the opening 45 minutes for the Three Lions.

Jack Grealish tapped in a Bukayo Saka cross shortly after the restart, but a VAR check ruled it out for offside. Harry Kane made an instant impact off the bench, forcing an own-goal from Jani Atanasov from a corner.

But England failed to find the back of the net for themselves. Nevertheless, they qualified top of Group C, securing a top seed spot for the draw which will take place next month.
