Gary Lineker has admitted he was forced to mute the word\u00a0s*** on Twitter after receiving\u00a0multitudes of messages referencing him\u00a0soiled himself on the pitch at the 1990 World Cup.<\/p>\n
Lineker suffered the embarrassment in England’s opening game of the tournament with the Republic of Ireland.<\/p>\n
The former Three Lions striker had opened the scoring in the first half of the match, with the infamous incident occurring 15 minutes into the second half.<\/p>\n
Lineker discussed the incident on\u00a0comedian Joe Lycett’s Turdcast podcast, which will launch on November 24 and see\u00a0celebrities reveal a series of\u00a0toilet based stories.<\/p>\n
The former England striker turned TV presenter explained the ‘little accident’ became public knowledge around the time he joined Twitter, now X.<\/p>\n

Lineker admitted he was eventually forced to mute ‘s***’ after football fans repeatedly responded to his posts with messages mentioning the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘My little accident became public knowledge around 20 years after the event, about the same time as I went on\u00a0Twitter, as it was then known,’\u00a0Lineker said.<\/p>\n
‘Every single tweet I would put out, underneath would be, whatever I was talking about say “I’m going to see Joe Lycett this afternoon”, it’ll be ‘S*** on Joe Lycett’.<\/p>\n
‘It’ll be multitudes of them all saying the same thing, whatever the subject, if I was talking about Manchester City it would be “s*** on Manchester City”.<\/p>\n
‘Brilliantly witty of them all.<\/p>\n
‘In the end they had this thing where you could mute words, so I muted s***, and I have really not seen any since, it actually works.’<\/p>\n
The Match of the Day host previously revealed the incident had occurred after he had been unwell the night before the match.<\/p>\n
Lineker explained he had not told anyone about his illness as he had been determined to play the match, but began cramping early in the second half.<\/p>\n

The moment happened when Lineker stretched for the ball. He was taken off\u00a0not long after<\/p>\n
‘The ball goes out on their left hands side and I kind of did a lunge at it and as I did that I kind of relaxed,’ the TV presenter told the\u00a0Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast.<\/p>\n
‘And it’s just gone BOOF and I’ve gone “Oh my God”. And I’m sat there on the ground and it’s all there.<\/p>\n
‘And I went “I’ve s*** myself”. I felt like crying. Thank God we had the dark blue shorts on and not the white ones.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lineker enjoyed an illustrious international career as he netted 48 times in 80 games for England, including scoring four times on England’s run to the semi-finals at Italia 90.<\/p>\n
England topped a group that also contained the Netherlands and Egypt before they heartbreakingly crashed out on penalties to West Germany in the semi-final.<\/p>\n
