Mick Schumacher finally has a race seat after a season as a reserve driver with Mercedes.<\/p>\n
The son of Formula One icon Michael Schumacher, the German began his career in F1 with Haas and spent two years with the team before he was replaced at the end of the 2022 season. He then spent this current season as a reserve driver for Mercedes and McLaren but the 24-year-old is eager to return to racing on a consistent basis.<\/p>\n
He announced on Wednesday (November 22) that he'll be joining World Endurance Championship as a member of the the Alpine endurance team. Alpine F1 driver Esteban Ocon, who is a good friend of Schumacher, urged the Swiss-born driver to approach interim team boss Bruno Famin.<\/p>\n

The approach led to a test drive where where Schumacher found himself behind the wheel of Alpine\u2019s A424 Hypercar, and was delighted to confirm his race seat for the 2024 endurance season.- He took to X to write: "A new chapter is beginning for me with Alpine in the FIA WEC Hypercar category," as he posted photos of the car and members of the team.<\/p>\n
He admitted that he missed racing this year and looks forward to a different challenge that is endurance racing. "The car is impressive, and I can\u2019t wait to get started. I\u2019ve grown up with single-seaters, so driving a car with a closed cockpit and covered wheels is a great opportunity to hone my driving skills.<\/p>\n
