Tottenham have reportedly cooled their interest in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. Ange Postecoglou wants to strengthen at the back but the Blues star’s recent injury record has caused Spurs concerns ahead of the January window.

Chalobah hasn’t played a single minute for Chelsea so far this season. A thigh injury has kept him out of action and he is not close to returning to fitness.

Once he is back available, he will likely find himself down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino. Tottenham had been linked with a move for the 24-year-old former England youth international.

With Micky van de Ven sidelined with a hamstring injury and Cristian Romero missing through suspension, Spurs’ lack of options in defence have been shown up. Eric Dier played alongside Ben Davies at the back in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves and will likely line up again against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Postecoglou will look to enter the market to add further options to his squad. However, Sky Sports claims it is unlikely a deal for Chalobah will be sought.

The report says Chalobah has suffered a setback in his recovery which will see him not return until early January. Spurs have been left concerned by his injuries and will look at alternative options.

Bournemouth star Lloyd Kelly was a player Spurs looked at in the summer. Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba were also linked with moves to north London.

Sky Sports claim Bayern Munich remain interested in Chalobah. The German side failed with a late loan move for him in the summer.

Chelsea did accept a deadline-day offer from Nottingham Forest for Chalobah. However, he decided against a move to the City Ground.

In September, Pochettino insisted there was no blame on Chelsea’s part. And he said Chalobah would be given every chance to prove he should be a part of his team moving forward.
