Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reckons the Arsenal 'Invincibles' side were the best team he ever faced during his lengthy career.

The ex-Liverpool defender made over 500 appearances for the Reds, and faced off against a number of iconic Premier League sides during that time – including the likes of Jose Mourinho's Chelsea and Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United.

And while both were impressive, they were nothing in comparison to Arsene Wenger's 'Invincibles' side according to Carragher. The legendary Gunners side of 2003/04 won the Premier League without a single defeat, a feat which has not been matched since.

The team was littered with a host of footballing superstars, including the likes of Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and Ashley Cole. And speaking to one of the members of the 'Invincibes', Freddie Ljungberg, on Sky Sports for 'Monday Night Football', Carragher explained just how difficult he found playing Arsenal during their pomp.

"This team is the best team I ever played against, and the one team where I would say going into games affected me psychologically," Carragher told the Swede.

"I felt uncomfortable, I didn’t feel good enough, I didn’t feel physically strong, it made me feel smaller and weaker. Against United, you knew they were better than us or Chelsea had the edge on us but you still felt we’d give them a good game. We’ll take them as far as they can. This, Freddie, and your team is what it did to me psychologically."

Part of the reason Carragher found the Gunners so difficult to deal with was due to him having to play right-back against them, a position which led to him having to defend the trio of Pires, Henry and Cole.

The daunting task meant the ex-Liverpool defender had to be constantly aware of their movement and rotations, deciding whether or not to track Pires inside, or stick to Henry while Cole bombed down the left-flank.

"I actually think playing this Arsenal team as a right back, I’m not sure there was any more difficult positions to play in the world, certainly at that time," added Carragher.

And the reason I’d say this team was the toughest to play against was because things happened so quickly.

"That’s the most difficult thing as a defender, you’ve got no time to react. I was an organiser, telling people where to go and organising the team. When you’re playing against a team who play at this pace there’s no time to speak. You can’t pass on information, things are happening so quickly.

"And I think this area of Pires, Cole, Thierry Henry was devastating. I have nightmares thinking about it."
