John Fury has told Mail Sport’s The Hook podcast he believes his son Tyson does want to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world – despite the Gypsy King’s claims it was not a dream of his.

Speaking exclusively to Mail Sport’s Oli Gamp earlier this month, Fury claimed he was ‘not interested in undisputed’ and compared it to repeatedly climbing Mount Everest ahead of his eagerly-awaited title fight against Oleksandr Usyk on February 17.

He added: ‘I’m not interested in all of that stuff. I don’t care about unifying the division and all of that stuff. I’ve already done it. I did it when I beat [Wladimir] Klitschko, I won all the belts.

‘It’s not that exciting when you’ve already done it. It’s like saying, “oh my god you’re going to climb up Mount Everest, you’ve done it 16 times before but you’re going to do it again”‘.

But his father John – who savaged Tyson’s ‘f***ing stupid game plan’ against Francis Ngannou – said he refused to believe his son wasn’t bothered about adding Usyk’s IBF, WBO, WBA and The Ring belts to his WBC one.

WBC heavyweight champion Fury will fight Usyk in an eagerly-anticipated bout on February 17

‘Doesn’t care about undisputed? Well if he doesn’t care about undisputed, why is he fighting then? For the money?’ he told The Hook.

‘That’s not Tyson. He will care, and if he doesn’t good luck to Usyk.

‘If he doesn’t care, if he comes in with that attitude, he’s not bothered, then it’s good luck to Usyk. I am one of them… if he gets beat I’ll say he gets beat.

‘But once Tyson’s head is on, Usyk’s not the man to do it.’

After the scare against UFC fighter Ngannou – which saw the Cameroonian drop him in round three en route to a narrow points victory – John Fury insisted nothing would be left to chance in Tyson’s training camp ahead of the showdown with Usyk.

‘People think I know what’s going on in the training camps, but I don’t,’ he added.

Fury goes into the bout after a hard-fought victory against Francis Ngannou last month

The long-anticipated bout will go ahead in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in three months time

‘I don’t have anything to do with it. I should do – but they don’t listen to daddy. I know what you’ve got to do for this one. You’ve got to go down a different road completely.

‘Tyson will have the eye of the tiger back for this one, he’ll need to change everything round.

‘He’ll need to do everything different and gain some solid muscle and put some work in – crack his balls working and when he does that, Usyk’s going to have a problem. He won’t be facing this negative Tyson that you saw with a s*** game plan.

‘I’m going to say it first. Whoever puts the best camp in and does the work will get it and deserve it. If Usyk puts a better camp in that Tyson, he works his a** off, he gets everything right, the better man will win.

‘It’s up to both guys what they want out of this. Tyson knows he needs an 180 degree turnaround. If he’s not prepared to do that, good luck to Usyk.’
