Kylian Mbappe should never have been gifted the chance to equalise from the penalty spot in the eight minute of stoppage time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Szymon Marciniak refereed the 2022 World Cup final, and Tomasz Kwiatkowski was his VAR. They are an experienced pairing and well respected, but this has to go down as one almighty error on their part.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All we ask is that our referees and VARs are as strong as they are consistent in their decision-making.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in this Champions League clash, we saw the ball strike Lewis Miley on the thigh and then bounce on to an arm which was slightly away from his body.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kwiatkowski decided against sending Marciniak to his monitor for a review.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/23\/78346701-0-image-a-17_1701213663981.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The decision to award an injury time penalty against Newcastle was a major refereeing error<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/23\/78347595-0-image-a-16_1701213412998.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Szymon Marciniak was sent to the monitor by his VAR to review the alleged offence by Tino Livramento despite declining to view a similar incident in the first half against Lewis Miley<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/23\/78349643-0-image-a-18_1701213716657.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Marciniak&#8217;s eventual decision to award the late penalty to PSG went against all UEFA guidance<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/28\/23\/78346697-12802491-Kylian_Mbappe_scored_the_resulting_penalty_as_PSG_controversiall-a-29_1701214248817.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Kylian Mbappe scored the resulting penalty as PSG controversially secured a 1-1 draw<\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>But then deep into stoppage time, we see an almost identical incident. The ball ricochets off Tino Livramento\u2019s chest and on to his elbow and this time, Kwiatkowski recommends a review by Marciniak.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While at his monitor, Marciniak is convinced that Livramento&#8217;s arm is outstretched because of the specific angle that the VAR is showing him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the angle from behind the goal, which we all saw on television but the VAR did not show to Marciniak, clearly proves this was not the case.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Livramento did not make his body bigger. His arm was in a natural position for the movement he was making.
