Kobbie Mainoo has been an open secret for those at Manchester United for some time, with the young starlet being tipped for the top by those at Old Trafford.

And anyone who was unfamiliar with the young midfielder was quickly acquainted to the star when Erik ten Hag let him loose against Leicester City last season.

Mainoo has gone from strength-to-strength this time out – and as United fans swoon over their new star, Daily Star Sport is having a look at five more youngsters that could break into the first-team before the end of the season.

Facundo Pellistri has already started to make his journey into first-team football as a regular feature for Ten Hag. Some Red Devils fans had been calling for Pellistri's inclusion in the side ahead of Antony during the early weeks on the season.

Pellistri obviously has the trust of Ten Hag too, with the youngster being trusted off the bench on Wednesday evening as the Red Devils faced a must-win clash with Galatasaray in the Champions League.

"For Pella, he has to make a step from bench player coming on and often having an impact to [being] a starting player," Ten Hag said ahead of the game. "We will see how quick that process will go!"

Omari Forson, 19, is another who could make the step-up this season, and he's already been named on the bench for United's losses to Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

Forson was an unused substitute on both occasions, but when handed a chance in the UEFA Youth League against Galatasaray he netted twice as United beat the Turkish youths. The 19-year-old is also regularly on the scoresheet in the Premier League 2.

However, United have a wealth of talent on the wings, and it could stop Forson from making himself a permanent fixture in the first-team squad.

After the 20/21 season, Shola Shoretire was handed the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award – awarded to the best United youth player that season.

In recent years, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have picked up the award, while Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Marcus Rashford are all previous winners.

Shoretire, 19, made his first-team debut way back in 2021, and after a loan to Bolton, the forward has to start thinking about breaking into the first-team this season.

Daniel Gore narrowly missed out on the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award to Kobbie Mainoo last season. And the youngster has earned plenty of admirers at Old Trafford.

Gore, 19, was on the bench for clashes with Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the Champions League, as well as Premier League clashes with Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Brighton, and Burnely.

Gore still plays the majority of his football in the youth ranks, and he's captained the Red Devils in the UEFA Youth League, Premier League 2, and the EFL Trophy.

The youngest name on this list is Shea Lacey – who is still only 16-years-old.

Born in 2007, Lacey has been fast tracked to a route to superstardom. He played for the U18's side when he was still just 15-years-old, and, over the summer, turned out for the U21s in a friendly against Dutch side Feyenoord.

Lacey might be a few years away from a first-team debut for the Red Devils, but he is certainly a name to remember.
