Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson had a bottle thrown at him by his own fans after the Eagles lost to Bournemouth.

Palace were beaten 2-0 by Bournemouth on Wednesday evening as Marcos Senesi and Kieffer Moore found the net for the visitors. And as the Cherries bested the Eagles, the atmosphere at Selhurst Park turned toxic against the home side.

And as Hodgson made his way down the home tunnel, reports suggest that a plastic bottle was thrown in the direction of the ex-England boss. The Guardian report that staff were quick to react as they tried to identify who threw the bottle.

The Eagles' league form has taken a down turn in recent weeks, and their last win was way back at the start of November, when they beat Burnley 2-0.

In their last five fixtures, Palace have lost to the likes of Luton Town and Everton. And, as a result, the Premier League mainstays have started to slip and slide down the table to 14th – eight points clear of the drop zone.

After the game, Hodgson said: "It was a very sad evening for us. We didn’t play well. We’ve punched above our weight for a number of years but the fact is every game for us is a street fight.

"We need the fans because without them it’ll be really hard. Don’t desert us in a bad moment. You’re very important to get behind us and get us going. The players need it too.

“The fans may need to accept it’s not going well for us at this moment but I hope they have enough empathy for the team. Tonight was not the performance they or the players wanted to see.”
