Fans are running out of superlatives for Alisson after the Liverpool keeper produced a magnificent stop against Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian flew across his line to deny Jefferson Lerma as the Palace midfielder latched onto a Jordan Ayew cross at the back post and blasted a shot goalward. The ball ricocheted off Alisson's hands into the air and onto the post, before the keeper clawed it away with the help of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Supporters leaped onto social media to lavish the Reds keeper with praise, with many branding his effort "the save of the season". One X user said: "No way Alisson that's superhuman." A second wrote: "Save of the season!!! Alisson is unbelievable!!!"

"Best goalkeeper in the Prem, and that's why," beamed a third, while a fourth added: "Oh my days that is magic from Alisson."

Some, however, felt that Lermer should have done better with the shot, arguing it was a save Alisson ought to have made. "It was a good save but the Palace player made it easier for him. If that goes nearer the post and/or along the ground, it's never being saved," one person wrote.

"Outrageous save? No. Basically straight at him, and he didn't get a strong hand to it so had to make a second save," another argued, while a third added: "Why is it that some gk's get hyped for literally everything they do? De Gea was same at United. Literally every PL GK makes this save and probably more convincingly. It's straight at him."

Palace took the lead on 57 minutes through Jean-Phillippe Mateta, who converted from the spot after the home side were awarded a penalty when Jarell Quansah booted Ayew in the box. Palace were denied a penalty in the first half too, with VAR overturning the referee's decision after a foul was spotted in the build-up.

A win for Roy Hodgson's men will move them up to 12th in the table. Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking to leapfrog Arsenal into first, but anything less than a win will leave them second, and they could drop to third if Aston Villa beat the Gunners in the late kick-off.
