Mauricio Pochettino admitted he wants to sign more players despite splashing £434million in the summer.

Chelsea suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League on Sunday, losing 2-0 away at Everton. Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin both netted in the second half to snatch three points at Goodison Park.

It marked the seventh league loss of the season for Pochettino’s men, who were beaten by a poor Manchester United side midweek. And the Argentinian manager was honest in his assessment of his side’s weaknesses post-game, stating that the Blues still need more quality in certain areas of the pitch.

He told the BBC: “We conceded first even though we were playing really well. Now we need to see and analyse the reality.

Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.

£22 a month

Pochettino’s statement comes despite Chelsea spending a staggering £434.5m on new players just months ago. Their summer spending was the most by any club during the transfer window in Premier League history.

The figure was also more than twice the amount spent by any of their Premier League rivals in the same window. Todd Boehly’s tenure at the helm since his takeover in the summer of 2022 has been categorised by wild spending and poor results on the pitch.

The American has permitted over £1billion in transfer signings with little to show for it. The west Londoners are currently way down in 12th place despite bringing in a whopping 17 players.

At this point, one has to seriously question both Chelsea’s transfer policy and recruitment team. And there is no guarantee that Pochettino will be able to turn the situation around even if Boehly loosens the purse strings once more.
